Startup Name HireOwl
What problem are you solving? We\’re solving two problems simultaneously. 1. Startups need on demand access to high quality yet affordable talent in order to boost productivity and grow their businesses. 2. University students need work experience, but it can be hard to find.
What is your solution? HireOwl connects startups to talented university students for internships and freelance projects that boost productivity and growth.
Target Market Early to mid-stage startups
How will you make money? We collect revenue for completed jobs.
Tell us about the market & founders, why is this a great opportunity? The internship market is huge (over 2 million internships per year in the U.S. alone), but the freelance market is even larger.Founder John Lidington has prior experience in this market. As a student at Harvard, John paid his way through college with freelance moving jobs and bartending gigs. While these jobs offered attractive wages and flexible scheduling, they did little to enhance his resume. Confident that there was a way to combine all three AND help businesses at the same time, John created HireOwl.

Founder Colin LeStrange\’s working life began at age 12 as a caddie in Worcester, MA. It was from these early days carrying overweight golf bags he learned that there is value and knowledge to be gained from every job. So, after realizing that his dream of joining the PGA Tour was just that…a dream (but he\’s not ruling out a run at the Champions Tour!)…he joined John to weave that early life lesson into HireOwl.
